Exercises That Are Safe During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, you want to take care of yourself while also being mindful of your condition. Some exercises can have too high an impact on your body.

Fortunately, plenty of options allow you to work out without overexerting yourself.

Yoga

Many people practice yoga because it benefits both your mind and your body. Physically, it helps improve balance, flexibility, and muscle strength. While yoga might seem like a slow, low-energy form of exercise, it still gets your heart rate up and you’ll break a sweat.

While pregnant, you want to make sure you look for a prenatal yoga class. This class will give you all the benefits of yoga while focusing on positions and poses that are better for your body. You’ll avoid positions such as spreading your legs too wide and you’ll also focus a lot more on breathing. This experience will help you prepare for giving birth.

Swimming

There are many benefits to swimming and it is especially good for women who are pregnant. Since you’re in the water, you are more buoyant and there’s less stress on your joints and your body as a whole. This allows you to exercise without feeling the extra strain that can come with being pregnant.

Additionally, swimming helps you work your entire body. You can continue to strengthen your muscles, joints, spine, and more throughout your pregnancy. Swimming while pregnant can help improve circulation and oxygen flow. This ensures your body, and your baby, are getting everything they need.

Walking

While pregnant, you want to focus on exercises that get your heart pumping without straining your body. Walking is a great form of exercise. It requires less effort and can be done for any interval you choose. You can take a leisurely walk through your neighborhood or you can walk along a trail. Just make sure you don’t push yourself too hard. The goal of walking while pregnant is to get moving, increase circulation, and give your body a chance to still exercise while you’re pregnant. As you walk, make sure you stay hydrated and have something to eat beforehand so you have plenty of energy.

Exercising while pregnant can help alleviate some of the negative symptoms of pregnancy such as backaches or swelling. It also helps to boost your mood and raise your energy levels. Find a form of exercise that you enjoy as you go through your pregnancy.
