How to Change Up Your Yoga Routine
Sometimes exercise, even the relaxing kind like yoga, can start to feel like a chore. Once you start dreading your yoga sessions, it’s time to switch something up. Look for ways to switch up and improve your yoga routine like the following!
Try New Poses
Your body is going to get used to your yoga routine if you do the same thing everyday. This means your heart rate won’t go up as much, nor will your mind or body feel stretched and exercised in unique ways. Mind Body Green recommends trying a new yoga pose or two the next time you do yoga in the morning.
If you’re unsure what to try or if there are any yoga poses you haven’t done before, get in contact with an experienced yoga instructor. They’re constantly thinking of new ideas to teach their classes, so they’ll likely have something new for you to try. Still don’t know what pose to try? You can pick a few based on a specific body part you want to strengthen and try new poses that will help.
Do it Outside
Getting a change of scenery can make any activity fun again. Breathe in the fresh air of the outdoors during any season for your yoga routine (although you may need a coat during winter months). According to Blake Charles Salon, a healthy amount of sun exposure can increase your Vitamin D levels. You may also have an easier time waking up if you’re doing yoga right in the morning with the smell and brightness of nature. Being out in nature can help you feel more at peace, and even meet new people while doing yoga outdoors.
Change the Length
When you dread your yoga routine, consider changing how long you do it. For example, if your routine is an hour long, cut it to 30 minutes. After a while of that, you can change the length of it again. Perhaps you’ll appreciate the hour-long routine more by going back to a shorter routine. The reverse is also true—lengthening your routine and making it more intensive could help you feel more fulfilled at the end of it. You could also add yoga blocks if you don’t use them. Parade recommends using yoga props to make your routine more enjoyable and even easier to manage.
Yoga is great at helping people with both their physical and spiritual needs. When it gets too repetitive or uninteresting for you, however, it’s time to change up your routine. If you try these tips and still find your routine boring, consider reaching out to a friend to see if you can do yoga with them.
