How to Relieve Your Constant Back Pain
Millions of people live with constant back pain every day. Needless to say, this pain can be uncomfortable and excruciating. While there may be multiple factors contributing to your back pain, these three suggestions can help relieve it.
Yoga
Yoga has become increasingly popular in relieving back pain and helping people maintain a healthy spine. If you are experiencing constant back pain, you should consider doing yoga poses, or asanas, to stretch and strengthen your back muscles.
There are several beginning yoga poses that can help relieve back pain. For example, you could try the cat stretch, also called the cow stretch. To do this pose, start on your hands and knees: with your hands on the ground, about shoulder distance apart, and your feet hip distance apart. Inhale, then exhale while drawing your belly button toward your spine and tucking your tailbone downward. Inhale again, and repeat the pose. You can try this stretch five to ten times each day to stretch your back muscles. You could also try the bridge pose and the standing forward fold.
Get a New Mattress
Your mattress may be one of the factors causing your current back pain. If your mattress is too soft, it can cause your spine to fall out of alignment. If your mattress is too hard, it will put pressure on your joints and eventually lead to back pain.
If your mattress is old, worn out, or uncomfortable, you might try getting a new mattress so you can sleep more comfortably. Many people make the mistake of sleeping on old mattresses, waiting for their warranty to expire before buying a new one. While your warranty may be for longer, most mattresses won’t last longer than 10 years.
Visit a Doctor
If you have been experiencing back pain for a long period of time, it might be time to consider getting professional help. Many people have eased their back pain through visiting a chiropractor or massage therapist. These doctors work by aligning the spine and surrounding muscles, thereby reducing pressure on the central nervous system. It usually takes a few visits to these doctors to experience pain relief, because they have to essentially reprogram the bones and muscles in your body to support a pain-free lifestyle.
If you’re ready to take action towards relieving your back pain, you should start by trying some yoga poses, getting a better mattress, and visiting a doctor. While these suggestions may not completely cure your back pain, they can certainly relieve it significantly.
